            Position: Summer Instructor of English as a Foreign Language, in Shanghai, China (with Option of Part-Time, Year-Round Work)

            Duration and Options for Position: Preparatory period from June 15 - June 26, 2020; intensive course from June 29-July 17, 2020. Depending upon the candidate's qualifications and availability, this position can become part-time, year-round, with a variety of language teaching, language assessment, and language training tasks. If the candidate is interested in, and approved for, year-round work, the work permit (if needed by the applicant) will be sponsored by one of CUW's Chinese university partners in Shanghai.

            Description of Position

            This is at minimum a short-term English language instructional position in the summer of 2020. Students are in CUW's dual degree program at Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College in Jiading. The instructor is tasked with raising students' academic English levels in preparation for transferring to CUW for coursework there. This position begins on June 15, 2020. A 3-week intensive instructional period begins two weeks later, on June 29, 2020. Additional related duties will be assigned if the instructor qualifies and is available for part-time work on a year-round basis.

            Duties for Summer 2020 Position:

            1. Prepare an intensive English course for Chinese college-level junior students (Year 3) in CUW's dual degree program.
            2. Instruct this college-level intensive English course to prepare students for academic use of English in the U.S.
            3. Be in frequent communication with Concordia University Wisconsin administration to service these dual degree program students.

            Duties for Year-Round Position:

            1. Instruct an Academic English course in the Fall of 2020, and other English language courses if available. For part-time work, the instructional load could be as little as 3-6 hours per week (this is all negotiable).
            2. Carry out periodic English language assessment of Chinese students (once per semester) using TOEFL/IELTS testing methods, on behalf of the Concordia University (CU) system.
            3. Be in frequent communication with Concordia University Wisconsin administration, faculty, and staff to service the dual degree program students.

            Salary for Summer 2020 Position:
            Salary: $4,000 - $5,000 USD (for 2 weeks preparation + 3 weeks teaching), depending upon qualifications

            Salary and Benefits for Year-Round, Part-Time Position:

            Position Title: Adjunct Faculty (with CUW)

            Salary (Gross): $4,000 USD per 3-unit course [$1,333 per unit]; units and corresponding salary would be set for duties such as English language assessment work if accepted

            Work Permit: Arranged and covered by CUW's Chinese partner university if needed/requested

            Health Insurance: Cigna Global Medical Plan [Gold Plan] for coverage of the employee; includes health & wellbeing coverage, vision & dental, medical evacuation, maternity up to $7,000, medical care worldwide; has $750 deductible, 20% cost share, and a $2,000 out-of-pocket maximum
            [*if health insurance is not needed, other benefits will be offered]


            1. MA in TESOL/ESL/EFL, Linguistics, or similar (required for the year-round position; desired for Summer 2020)
            2. 4 years of experience, minimum, teaching English to college- or high school-aged students (required for the year-round position; desired for Summer 2020)
            3. Under 59 years of age (required for year-round position if needing the Chinese work visa/permit due to Chinese restrictions)
            4. Currently in China (due to COVID-19 travel restrictions)
            5. Further desired qualifications to be discussed
